Who Will Be The Next Pope?

With Pope Benedict XVI stepping down as the head of the Catholic Church, the first Pontiff to do so in 600 years, there remains a need to fill the most powerful religious position in the world. But who will be chosen? According to the Irish Archbishop St Malachy, who remarkably used symbolism to predict the Popes over the last 1000 years right up until recently with Pope Benedict, says that the next Pope will be the last who will bring down the church and referred to him as Pietrus (Peter) the Roman. Who will the Cardinals select as their new leader at the latest conclave, the second conclave since John Paull II died and only the 3rd in the last 36 years? With Pope Benedict being older, they knew the wanted to select a Pope who would head the church for a shorter duration (an iterim Pope) before the next one due to division.

Definitely with recent trends in the world, the new Pope will be much younger as he will need to connect with the modern world. He will definitely be a baby boomer as most of the leaders in the world who have been elected since the year 2000 are of this age demographic. Western Powers usually have the greatest influence in who gets in. Politically the last two Popes being of German and the previous Polish decent fit the rise of German economic power in the EU and the Perestoika movement in the former USSR respectively. 1946 is an important year in western politics as two back to back US Presidents were born in that year (Clinton and Bush Jr). However the only Vatican Cardinal born in that year is Fernando Filoni of Italy. An Italian Pope of the Roman Curia would fit Malachy’s prophecy as well as the fact that he is an expert in Chinese affairs and on the Middle East. What better place for the Church to expand than in China as China is the most populated athiest country in the world. Perfect for new reqruits to expand the religion’s base. Born in 1946, he will still be 66 after the conclave (666 is generally referred to as Satanic).

Filoni was appointed by Benedict as Cardinal. Now what if the church wants to detach itself from Benedict and select only a boomer Cardinal to be Pope who was appointed by the much loved John Paul II? There could be Péter Erdő (of Hungary), Philippe Barbarin (France), Josip Bozanić (Croatia) and Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson (Ghana) all select by John Paul II. Finally, an interesting Italian Cardinal is Giuseppe Betori who survived an assassination attempt. Why would someone want to kill an Italian Cardinal as well as how infallible is he that he was not harmed (remember Damien from the Omen)? Either or we will find out over the next few days as the Pope will definitely be selected before Easter.
